BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Frostburg State volleyball team captured the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference regular season title after sweeping both Hilbert and Medaille 3-0, in its season finale Saturday afternoon. With the pair of wins, the Bobcats will host the semifinals and finals of the AMCC Tournament at Bobcat Arena, Nov. 6 & 7.
Frostburg State (28-4, 10-0) has now captured the AMCC regular season in each of the last two seasons and will try for it's third-straight tournament championship.
The Bobcats swept past Hilbert in the first match of the day by scores of 25-7, 25-10 and 25-14. FSU completed the afternoon with a shutout of Medaille by the counts of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-20.
Against the Hawks (4-19, 1-9), senior
Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) led the offensive attack with 14 kills. She was followed by seven kills from junior
Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) and six kills from junior
Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir).
Sophomore
Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) needed to hand out just 20 assists in the win, to go along with four digs. Stephens led the way with 10 digs, followed by Winterling with six and Thomas with five.
Winterling again paced the offense with 16 kills in the win over Medaille (19-10, 6-4). Stephens posted nine kills followed by senior
Chelsea Wassell (Westernport, Md./Southern Garrett) and sophomore
Sabrina Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) each with four.
Carrington passed out 31 assists and Thomas posted a team-high nine digs.
Frostburg State returns to action in the AMCC Tournament semifinals on Friday, Nov. 6.
