Women's Soccer Dominates Mt. Aloysius 8-0

FROSTBURG, Md. - Three different players scored two goals each as the Frostburg State women's soccer team dominated Mt. Aloysius 8-0, Tuesday evening.

The Bobcats (11-2, 5-1) have posted three-straight shutouts and have won eight-straight overall. The Mounties fall to 0-14 overall on the season.

Senior Christine Fitzgerald (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg), junior Lauren Russell (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) and freshman Amanda Wharton (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) each posted two goals in the victory, while Russell added an assist.

Frostburg State dominated the game on both sides of the ball, outshooting MTA 43-0, including 24-0 in the first half.

Wharton and Russell combined to put the Bobcats ahead 3-0 inside the first 20 minutes of action. Wharton scored at 5:52 and again at 18:06, while Russell found the net at 6:20.

FSU's final goal of the opening half came at 30:01 when Fitzgerald scored off an assist from sophomore Olivia Winant (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg).

The second half saw more of the same from the FSU attack as the hosts added four more goals. Russell opened the half's scoring with her second tally of the contest at 52:55 from junior Kierstin Stevenson (Frostburg, Md./Beall). Less than a minute later, sophomore Erin Ford (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) scored an unassisted goal for a 6-0 Bobcat lead.

Russell fed senior Kaleigh Herring (Perry Hall, Md./North Harford) for the seventh score and Fitzgerald scored off a pass from sophomore Shonna Ferree (Frostburg, Md./Beall) for the eighth and final goal.

The Bobcats had a pair of goalies in net against the Mounties. Sophomore Kristin Prochniak (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) earned the win in her first collegiate start while freshman Jessica Flewellyn (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) was in the goal for the second half. MTA goalkeeper Nicola Johnson had 19 saves in the loss.

FSU is back on the field at Juniata tomorrow October 14 at 4:00 pm.
