BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sophomore Elizabeth Carrington (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) scored a career-high 25 points and junior Brittany James (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) added her fourth double-double of the season to help Frostburg State past Bridgewater State, 88-80, in overtime in the consolation game of the Eighth Annual Starters Moravian Winter Classic, Saturday.

FSU, which had three starters in double figures, overcame a 16-point second-half deficit and used an 11-of-12 free-throw effort in OT to earn the victory.

Both teams made 15 backets in the first half but Bridgewater State (5-5) held the intermission lead after making four more three-pointers and six more free throws in the opening period. Frostburg State took control in the second half by shooting 50.0 percent (15-of-30) from the floor, including 22 points in the paint and 15 points off 10 Bridgewater turnovers.

Carrington, who led all scorers in points, was 9-of-17 (52.9%) shooting and 7-of-13 from the foul line. She also recorded seven boards and a game-high five steals. For her effort, James earned all-tournament honors after pouring in 23 points and grabbing 16 boards, including 10 on the offensive end. Sophomore Mercedes White (Bowie, Md./Bowie) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Bobcats as she chipped in 13 points.

The Bears were led in scoring by Corey Cuddihy with 19 points, including five three-pointers. Stephanie Houtman added 16 and Monica Bharoocha scored 12.

The first half, which featured five lead changes and four ties, saw Bridgewater use a 13-4 run midway through the period to take an eight-point cushion (23-15) at 10:21. FSU battled back to tie the contest at 31-31 with 4:09 showing but the Bears used a late 13-5 run to close out the opening stanza 36-44.

In the second, Bridgewater opened a 16-point lead (56-40) just over four minutes into action. However, Frostburg State put together a 28-12 run spanning a little over 11 minutes to tie the contest at 68-68 with just 3:01 to play. With 44 seconds showing, Carrington made a pair of free throws to give FSU a 73-72 lead. Houtman had a chance to win the game with just two seconds left but she made just one of two free throws to send the contest into an extra frame.

FSU allowed Bridgewater to lead just once in overtime and held the Bears to just three baskets while slowly using the free throw line to earn the win.

Frostburg State returns to action on Wednesday, January 7 when it travels to Franciscan for an AMCC matchup at 6:00 pm.
