Women's Basketball Defeated By Pitt-Greensburg, 62-59

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Despite 17 points and 13 rebounds from junior Brittany James (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) the Frostburg State women's basketball team fell to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Greensburg, 62-59, on Thursday evening.

Junior Caryn Wright (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech) and senior Jamie Morningstar (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) each recorded 12 points and five rebounds in the loss.

In the first half of play, the game was tied six times with the lead changing a total of nine times. UPG (15-2, 10-1) jumped to an early five-point advantage over FSU (10-8, 7-4), 10-5, at the 14:42 mark after a layup from Allison Bilak off a Nicole Reiser assist. With 9:35 remaining, Frostburg State rallied back with a five-point lead over Pitt-Greensburg, 16-21, after Morningstar netted a layup.

The teams continued to swap leads until the 1:14 mark when FSU tied the game for the sixth time with a free throw from Morningstar, 28-28. UPG went on to score four-consecutive points which was aided by a three-pointer from Reiser, giving the break score of 32-28.

Less than two minutes into the second half, UPG had the largest lead of the game with a 10-point advantage over Frostburg State, 38-28, after it posted a six-point scoring run. FSU rallied back to tie the game at the 13:36 mark, 40-40, aided by nine-point scoring run ending with a free throw from James.

The game was tied eight more times and the teams continued to swap leads as neither team allowed their opponent to have more than a five-point advantage. The game was tied for the last time with 35 seconds remaining after a free throw from senior Ashley Anthony (Washington, D.C./Woodrow Wilson), 59-59. The end score came with 14 seconds left in play as Reiser netted a three-pointer, 62-59. 

Leading UPG in scoring and rebounds was Kelsey Wilcox. Wilcox recorded a game-high of 21 points and 15 rebounds. Reiser also posted 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds

The Bobcats are back in action at home against AMCC opponent Medaille on January 31 at 1:00 pm in Bobcat Arena.
