FROSTBURG, Md. - After falling behind 2-1 at halftime, the Frostburg State women's field hockey team scored three goals in the second half and held the Knights to just one score to earn a 4-3 win, Sunday.
The win is the second in as many days for the Bobcats (2-1) who earned a close 2-1 double overtime victory yesterday afternoon against Randolph Macon.
Neumann (0-4) jumped out to a 1-0 lead and got on the board first when Lauren Hood scored on a pass from Megan Scott, 20:43 into the opening half of action.
Sophomore
Breanne Russell (Clements, Md./Chopticon) answered for Frostburg State with her first goal of the season eight minutes later off a feed from classmate
Brooke Tapman (Pocomoke, Md./Pocomoke), her first of two assists on the afternoon. However, the tie didn't last very long as Rachel DiCicco scored to give the visitors a 2-1 edge just 1:40 before intermission.
Despite trailing on the scoreboard, the Bobcats led in shots 7-4 and penalty corners 5-4 in the opening stanza.
In the second half, FSU netted three-straight goals over a 15 minutes span to take the lead for good. Senior
Michelle Frost (Jessup, Md./Hammond) tied the game at 2-2 when she scored her first goal of the season at 43:50 off a penalty corner from freshman
Sami Topolski (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin).
Junior
Sammy Stalter (La Plata, Md./La Plata) gave the Bobcats the lead for good when she scored her first goal of the season at 47:38 off another assist from Topoloski. Ten minutes later,
Aly Erickson (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) handed Frostburg State a 4-2 lead when she found the back of the cage on a pass from Tapman.
DiCicco narrowed the deficit to 4-3 with an unassisted goal at 64:44, but the FSU defense came up big the rest of the way holding the Knights to just one shot and two penalty corners.
FSU sophomore goalkeeper
Samantha Foland (Myersville, Md./Middletown) played the second half between the pipes for the Bobcats, making one saves and allowing one goal while earning the win. Senior
Rachel Babchuk (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) played the first half in net allowing two goals in 35 minutes of action. Neumann keeper Jordan Haviland stopped five shots in the loss.
Frostburg State finished the contest with a 15-7 lead in shots and a 12-9 edge in penalty corners.
FSU is back in action on September 10 when it travels to Shenanodah at 4:00 pm.
