GETTYSBURG, Pa -The Frostburg State volleyball team split games on the final day of the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic to finish the weekend with a 3-1 record. FSU fell in the morning match 3-0 to Eastern, but rebounded in the afternoon for a hard fought 3-2 win over host Gettysburg.
In the opening match FSU fell to Eastern by scores of 19-25, 21-25, and 15-25
Junior
Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) led Frostburg State with 12 kills while sophomore
Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) added 6. Winterling also had four blocks and six digs.
Sophomore
Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservior) led the FSU squad with nine digs, while freshman
Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) led in assists, handing out 28.
In the second match, Frostburg State rebounded to defeat Gettysburg with scores of 25-22, 22-25, 21-25, 25-10, and 15-8.
Carrington led the Bobcats in assists with a season-high 36 and sophomore
Rachel Burke (Laurel, Md. / Reservoir) turned in a great performance with 20 digs and four service aces.
Winterling gave another all-star performance with 16 kills, four blocks and 16 digs. Her performance earned her a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
A pair of freshman added to the stat line as
Sabrina Winterling (Glenelg, Md. / Glenelg) led the team with six blocks and
Christine Barnes (Williamsport, Md. / Williamsport) scored six aces.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, September 6 on the road at Waynesburg.
