Women's Soccer Holds Off McDaniel for 2-1 Win

FROSTBURG, Md. - Frostburg State scored a goal in each half and held off a late charge from McDaniel to win 2-1 in women's soccer action, Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium.

The Bobcats, who outshot the Green Terror 21-4 and led in corner kicks 8-0, found the net in the fifth minute in the opening period and in the 50th minute in the second half. McDaniel (1-3) netted its only score at 81:00.

Sophomore Heather Fleishell (Middletown, Md./Middletown) put the hosts on the board early in the first (4:32) when she headed in a cross from freshman Meische Cox (Laurel, Md./Meade) for her first goal of the season.

FSU (2-1) held a 10-1 edge in shots over the remainder of the half but the game remained 1-0 at intermission.

Sophomore Lauren Russell (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) gave the Bobcats a 2-0 lead just 4:40 in the second as she took a long pass from Tori Walter (Frederick, Md./Frederick) and slipped the ball past the outstretched keeper.

Brittany Baer scored for McDaniel at 81:00 to seal the game's scoring.

Leane Hollinger stopped 11 shots in the loss for the Green Terror while Bobcat starter Stephanie Gwinn (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) needed one save for the win.

Frostburg State returns to the field on September 13 for a game against Stevenson at noon.
