STEUBENVILLE, Ohio. - Sophomore
Lauren Russell (Waldorf, Md. / Westlake) scored the game-winning goal for the Frostburg State women's soccer team as it defeated Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Franciscan, 2-0, Saturday afternoon.
FSU (6-1-1, 2-0) outshot Franciscan University (5-4-1, 2-2) 21-6 in the win.
At 13:45, Russell netted the only goal of the first half off an assist from classmate
Kierstin Stevenson (Frostburg, Md./Beall), giving FSU a 1-0 advantage over the Barons. Russell now leads the team in goals with four.
In the second half, junior
Christine Fitzgerald (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) scored her first goal of the season at 63:50 mark to give the final score of 2-0.
Bobcat keeper junior
Stephanie Gwinn (Ijamsville, Md. / Urbana) recorded three saves in the win while Baron goalkeeper Elisabeth Hofer had 11 saves in the loss.
Frostburg State is back on the field at nationally ranked No. 7 John Hopkins on October 1st at 7:00 pm.
