Lacrosse Scores Early and Often Against Washington & Jefferson

FROSTBURG, Md. - Ten different players scored for Frostburg State as it ran away from Washington & Jefferson for an 18-7 win, Thursday under the lights at Bobcat Stadium.

FSU (8-7) scored the game's first six goals over the first seven and half minutes and never allowed the President's (2-8) to gain any momentum.

W&J narrowed the gap to four, 6-2, but the Bobcats answered with a pair of scores of their own for an 8-2 lead. After Washington & Jefferson netted its third and final goal of the opening half, Frostburg State scored back-to-back goals for a 10-3 lead at the break.

In the second, FSU scored three of the half's first four goals for a 13-4 edge over the first nine minutes of action. The teams swapped a few goals until FSU collected a three-goal run, starting at 12:34 and ending at 6:23, for a 17-6 lead. Each squad scored one more time as the final horn sounded.

Sophomore Elisabeth Hildebrand (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) led all players with seven points, three goals and four assists while senior Carly Rihard (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) netted four goals and handed out two assists. Rihard now leads the Bobcats on the season with a career-high 36 goals while Hildebrand is second with 35. Senior Lindsay Lamont (Sykesville, Md./Century) was third on the team with five points on one goal and four assists and continues to lead the team in points (59).

Sophomore Katie Dannemann (Herndon, Va./Paul VI) netted a hat trick for the Bobcats scoring two in the first half and junior Meredith Martin (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) scored two goals and added two assists. Sophomore Lindsey Chaffman (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) and freshman Megan Dent-Carman (LaVale, Md./Mercersburg Academy) each added a goal and an assist while sophomores Kelly Meinecke (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport) and Davia Procida (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) and freshman Jessica Beaty (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) each scored one.

Courtney Schrock led all players with five goals for the Presidents. Shannon Rainey added a goal and an assist while Laura Peery added a late second half score for W&J.

Junior netminder Erin Morrell (Easton, Md./Easton) picked up her eighth win of the season with eight saves, six in the second half. Amber Kuntz endured the loss allowing all 18 goals and stopping 12 shots.

Frostburg State returns to the field on Thursday when it travels to Messiah for a 4:00 pm start.
