St. Vincent Too Much for Lacrosse

LATROBE, Pa. - St. Vincent picked up its second-consecutive win with a 14-6 victory over visiting Frostburg State, Thursday.

The Bearscats (5-2) outscored FSU (5-7) 7-3 in both halves on their way to the win.

Sophomore Elisabeth Hildebrand (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) led the Bobcat attack with three goals and now leads Frostburg State with 25 on the season.

Sophomores Katie Dannemann (Herndon, Va./Paul VI) and Davia Procida (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) along with freshman Heather Pongracz (Columbia, Md./Hammond) each netted a goal for the Bobcats in the loss.

With St. Vincent up 4-0 throught he first 12 minutes, Procida put the Bobcats on the board at 17:21 and cut into the host lead (4-1). A minute and a half later, Hildebrand scored her first of the game as FSU trimmed the deficit to 4-2. The Bearcats would halt the Bobcat momentum with three straight-goals over a five-minute stretch late in the opening half. Danneman netted a goal for Frostburg State with 12 seconds left in the first half to cut the score to 7-3 at the break.

The second half saw more of the same from St. Vincent as it opened the half with three-straight goals for a 10-3 lead. Hildebrand scored the first of the second for FSU at 22:28, but the Bearcats answered less than a minute later with a goal to a 11-4 edge.

Hildebrand netted her third score of the game with 13:23 to narrow the gap to 11-5 but St. Vincent again held off any comeback attempt with back-to-back goals for a 13-5 lead with 7:41 left. The teams traded goals over the final few minutes as the scoring ended.

Megan Sekinger and Liz Louison each netted four goals for the Bearcats and Erica Lisi made nine saves in goal.

Junior goalie Erin Morrell (Easton, Md./Easton) took the loss for Frostburg State allowing all 14 goals while stopping nine shots.

The Bobcats are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Wesley for a 1:00 pm start.
