Clingan and Rohrs Dominate Susquehanna Invitational

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Senior Jess Clingan (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) and junior Sumer Rohrs (Frostburg, Md./Forest) turned in dominating performances at the Suquehanna Invitational, Friday.

The pair combined to qualify for the ECAC Championships six times and the NCAA Championships twice.

Rohrs started her day off with a victory and an ECAC and NCAA provisional qualifying time (7.28) in the 55-meter dash. She followed that event up with a win in the 200-meter dash in 25.85, also an ECAC Championship mark.

She saved her best effort for her third and final event of the meet, the 55-meter hurdles. After running an 8.39 in the preliminaries, she ran an 8.27 in the finals for an automatic spot in the NCAA Championships.

Clingan qualified for the ECAC's in all three of her events and earned a victory in the 400-meter dash (59.69). She was runner-up in the 200-meter dash (26.80) and third in the 55-meter hurdles (8.73).

Freshman Emily Furr (Damascus, Md./Poolesville) won the triple jump with a distance of 10.33 meters and was sixth in the high jump (1.47 meters) while sophomore Kendal Moss (Hagerstown, Md./Williamsport) captured eighth in the pole vault (2.45 meters).

In the distance events, sophomore Gwen Massey (Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford) was second in the 800-meter run (2:24.83) and freshman Anne Patron (Baltimore, Md./Dulany) was sixth in the one-mile run (5:39.72).

The Frostburg State men's team was led by juniors Brian Leiter (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scott Key) and Arien Heggs (Arlington, Va./Wakefield).

Leiter won the 800-meter run for the third-straight meet. His time of 1:53.59 was six seconds ahead of the second place finisher, set the school record and landed him a provisional spot at the NCAA Championship meet.

Heggs was second in the 55-meter dash with a tiem of 6.61, just 0.02 seconds behind the winner. His time was good enough to qualify him for the ECAC Championships. Heggs later finished 13th in the 200-meter dash (24.02).

In the 55-meter hurdles, junior Steve Flanagan (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) was 12th (8.76) and sophomore Dustin Eagle (Mechanicsville, Md./Trinity) was 15th in the 5,000-meter run (17:31.51).

The Bobcats return to action on Saturday, February 16 when they travel back Selinsgrove for the Susquehanna University Open.
