CRESSON, Pa. – The Frostburg State women's basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped Wednesday night falling 72-56 to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Mt. Aloysius.
The Bobcats (8-16, 5-12) won the opening tip and junior Jaime Morningstar (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) scored the first points of the game to give FSU the only lead it would see on the night. The Mounties (13-10, 8-9) would use great performances by Lindsay Bush and Brianna Baker who would account for more than half of their teams points on the night. Bush lead all scorers for the game with 22 points and four rebounds, while Baker contributed with 20 points, four rebounds and finish the evening a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
Mt. Aloysius would take an eight-point lead to the locker room at the break and come out on fire shooting an impressive 54 percent (15-of-28) from the floor in the second half. MTA would use the first ten minutes of the second half to pull away to a 25-point lead and not look back. Down the stretch, Frostburg State would make a run on the shoulders of freshman Mercedes White (Bowie, Md./Bowie) but it would be too late as they would only get within 16 points when the clock expired setting the final score at 72-56.
White would lead all FSU scorers and tie her career-high with 19 points and four rebounds. Senior Amanda LaPorta (Westminster, Md./Westminster) would be the only other Bobcat in double-digits recording 13 points and three steals.
FSU returns to action at home on Saturday, February 23 to face Lake Erie in the regular-season finale at 1:00 pm.
