Six Players in Double Figures Powers Men's Basketball Past Mt. Aloysius

CRESSON, Pa. - Six players scored in double figures and Frostburg State tied a season-high with 37 baskets as the Bobcats defeated Mt. Aloysius 95-78, Wednesday.

The Bobcats (8-16, 7-10) shot 51.2 percent (21-of-41) in the first half and cruised to a game-high 19-point lead in the second for the victory.

Senior Jade Belt (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) led Frostburg State with 27 points and 13 rebounds while classmate Brian Green (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) scored 16 points and had eight assists. Freshman Brian Anderson (Perry Hall, Md./Eastern Tech) had 14 and senior Dale DeBerry (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) netted 13. Rounding out the scoring leaders for the Bobcats were freshman Jamal Bracken (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) and junior Juan Wansley (Odenton, Md./Arundel) with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

FSU led in rebounds (43-37), offensive boards (19-11) and forced the Mounties (4-20, 1-16) into 21 turnovers.

Richard McNutt led Mt. Aloysius in scoring with 29 points. He also chipped in a team-high 10 rebounds. Tyrone Lowery scored 17 and Jimmy Snyder added 13.

The hosts led by as many as 10 points (16-6) just over four minutes into the game, but the Bobcats scored 11-straight points, including three baskets from beyond the arc, to take their first lead, 17-16 at 14:24.

At 6:51, the game was tied for a fifth time in the opening half when the score was knotted at 29-29, however, FSU would slowly pull away over the remainder of the half and lead 54-42 at the half.

In the second, the Mounties narrowed the gap to four points (61-57) with 14:18 to play. The Bobcats again surged ahead with seven-straight points to push their lead back to double digits (68-57) a minute later.

Frostburg State would control the tempo from there and open its largest lead of the game (93-74) with just 2:00 left in regulation before going on for the win.

FSU returns to action in its regular-season finale this Saturday when the Bobcats host Lake Erie at 3:00 pm.
