ERIE, Pa. - Junior
Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) smashed 17 kills as the Frostburg State volleyball team captured its second-straight Allegheny Mountian Collegiate Conference championship title with its 3-0 win over regular season champions Penn State Behrend, on Saturday.
FSU (29-5, 8-1) defeated PSB (22-9, 9-0) with scores of 25-15, 25-17 and 25-20. This is the ninth AMCC championship title that the Bobcats have won since the conference began in 1997 and gives the team an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Along with her 17 kills, Winterling chipped in 12 digs and one block. Sophomore
Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) and junior
Chelsea Wassell (Westernport, Md./Southern Garrett) each had eight kills and Stephens also had six digs.
Sophomore
Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) filled up the box score with eight kills, six digs, two service aces and one block for the second-straight day. Sophomore
Brittany McVearry (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) led the team with three service aces.
Freshman
Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) handed out 41 assists in the win over the lions, making this her ninth game this season with over 40 assists. Carrington also chipped in one block while sophomore
Rachel Burke (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) led the FSU squad with 16 digs.
FSU will now wait on the annoucement of who it will play in the opening round of the NCAA tournament on November 13th.
