ERIE, Pa. - The Frostburg State volleyball team advanced to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship with a 3-1 win over Pitt-Greensburg in the semi-final round Friday, November 7.
FSU (28-5, 8-1) defeated UPG (13-11, 7-2) by scores of 25-14, 25-12, 23-25, 25-15.
Junior
Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) and sophomore
Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) paved the way for the Bobcats as they each had 17 kills for the contest. Winterling also added six digs and a block, while Stephens made five assists.
Freshman
Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) continued her outstanding debute season as she recorded her eighth 40-plus assist effort as she handed out 40 assists along with three kills and two blocks for the game. She now has 1,092 assists for the season, which is just 20 away from fifth all-time for a single season.
Junior
Chelsea Wassell (Westernport, Md./Southern Garrett) tied season-highs with her eight kills and four blocks on the evening. Sophomore
Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) also provided a solid effort as she contributed with three kills, four assists, eight digs and four blocks.
Freshman
Sabrina Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) continued to provide a solid defensive base as she battled for five blocks in the contest.
The Bobcat win sets up a championship match-up between the top two teams in the AMCC. The championship game will feature the only conference opponent to defeat Frostburg State this season as Penn State Behrend picked up a 3-1 win on Oct. 18.
The championship match will begin at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 8 at top seeded Penn State Behrend.
