Women's Soccer Falls in ECAC South Championship

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Swarthmore women's soccer team took home the ECAC South Tournament title as they outshot Frostburg State 5-4 in a shootout, Sunday at Bobcat Stadium.

FSU (16-2-4) and the Garnet (10-4-6) played 110:00 minutes with neither team able to break through the opponents staunch defense.

The Bobcats outshot Swarthmore in the contest 12-8, including 4-2 in the two overtime sets but Garnet keeper Lauren Walker made five saves on the afternoon to halt the FSU attack. Walker earned the ECAC Most Value Player award for the tournament as she had eight saves for the tournament and recorded three shutouts.

The turning point came in the shootout as the first Bobcat attempt by sophomore Kierstin Stevenson (Frostburg, Md./Beall) was stopped by Walker. The Garnet then converted all five of its shootout attempts to take the victory.

Seniors Tori Walter (Frederick, Md./Frederick) and Trishia Richardson (Gibson Island, Md./St. Mary's) along with juniors Kaleigh Herring (Perry Hall, Md./North Harford) and Lauren Lentine (Princeton, N.J./WWP North) made the other four shootout attempts for FSU.

Frostburg State finishes its season with an overall record of 16-2-4. The Bobcats also set school single-season records of lowest goals against average (0.35) and fewest goals allowed (8).

The three FSU seniors Walter, Richardson and Jackie Donovan (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) played an integral part of setting the single season records as they each started every game this season and made up the defensive front for the Bobcats.
