Women's Soccer Earns Top Seed in 2008 ECAC South Tournament

FROSTBURG, Md. - Barring a loss in the first round, the road to the 2008 ECAC South Tournament Championship will run through Frostburg State as the Bobcat women's soccer team has earned the No. 1 seed in this year's tournament, announced by the ECAC Monday.

FSU (14-2-3) will kickoff the opening round of the tournament on Wednesday when it hosts No. 8 seed Widener (11-5-2) at Bobcat Stadium at 4:00 pm. If FSU wins, it will host both the semifinals and championship game at Bobcat Stadium this weekend. The Bobcats will look to rebound from a disappointing 1-1 tie, 4-3 loss in penalty kicks, in the AMCC Tournament Championship to Penn State Altoona.

Frostburg State, making its eighth-straight post-season appearance and third-consecutive ECAC Tournament, will face Widener for the first time in school history. The Pride are making their fifth appearance in the ECAC Tournament (1995, 2002, 2006, 2007) in the program's history.

Sophomore Lauren Russell (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) leads the Bobcat offense with 10 goals and five assists on the season. Junior Lauren Lentine (Princeton, N.J./WWP North) is second on the team in points (17) on six goals and five assists.

Frostburg State also has a stingy defense led by a trio of seniors. Tori Walter (Frederick, Md./Frederick), Tricia Richardson (Gibson Island, Md./St. Mary's) and Jackie Donovan (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) lead a defensive unit that allowed just eight goals in 19 games this season and boast a 0.41 goals against average, good for ninth in the country.
