Women's Soccer Defeats NCAA Division II Shepherd

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - After a scoreless first half, sophomore Shonna Ferree (Frostburg, Md./Beall) scored the game-winning goal in the 50th minute to lift the Frostburg State women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over NCAA Division II Shepherd 2-0, Thursday afternoon.

The Bobcats, winners of three-straight, are now 9-1-2 overall on the season while the Rams slip 5-7.

On a free kick from 25 yards out, junior Lauren Lentine (Princeton, N.J./WWP North) fed the ball towards the goal that Ferree sent to the back of the net for a 1-0 FSU lead.

FSU, which led in shots 19-5, added to its lead when Lentine was credited with her second assist of the game in 62 minute. She broke free in Ram territory and dribbled for 40 yards before slotting the ball across the goal to junior Kaleigh Herring (Perry Hall, Md./North Harford), who tapped it home for the final score of the contest.

Freshman Michelle Buckmaster (St. Leonard, Md./Calvert) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Bobcats making two stops while earning her second collegiate win. Traci McCarty made 11 saves and allowed both goals in the loss for Shepherd.

Frostburg State is back in action on Saturday when it travels to AMCC foe Hilbert for a contest at 1:00 pm.
