FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State volleyball team defeated Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Mount Aloysius, 3-0, to remain undefeated in conference play, Wednesday evening.
Game scores were 25-9, 25-13 and 25-18.
In game one, FSU (21-3, 3-0) had a 13-8 lead over the Mounties (7-10, 1-3), aided by seven kills from junior
Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg). The Bobcats would go on an 11-point run which included a service ace from freshman
Christine Barnes (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) and a block from sophomore
Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir), 24-8. Frostburg State allowed MAC to score only one more point before Thomas smashed a kill to end the scoring, 25-9.
Frostburg State started game two with a 10 point lead over the Mounties after scoring seven-consecutive points, 15-5. The Bobcats would not allow Mount Aloysius to get within ten points of them, as they went on one three-point run and one two-point run before giving the final score of 25-13.
The Mounties struck first in the third game with a 7-4 lead over the Bobcats. FSU rallied to score to a three-point lead, 11-8, over MAC, with the help of a five-point run that included two service aces from sophomore
Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md. /Southern Garrett). Frostburg State enlarged its lead to seven points, after two three-point runs, 19-12. The Bobcats would end the game by scoring two consective points, 25-18, giving FSU the win.
Winterling led the squad with 15 kills followed by Stephens with seven. Winterling also chipped in four digs and two blocks while Stephens had three service aces.
Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) handed out 24 assists and sophomore
Rachel Burke (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) seven digs, three assists and two service aces in the victory over the Mounties.
Thomas had six digs and one block while freshman
Sabrina Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) posted three blocks. Barnes chipped in two service aces and three assists. Freshman
Amber Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) also had two service aces.
The Bobcats return to action at Neumann for a tri-match against Lebanon Valley at 1:00 pm and Neumann at 3:00 pm.
