FROSTBURG, Md. - Sophomore
Lauren Russell (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) captured her second career hat trick and the Frostburg State women's soccer team recorded its fourth-straight shutout of an AMCC opponent with a 6-0 victory over Pitt-Greensburg, Tuesday on a chilly night at Bobcat Stadium.
The Bobcats, who haven't lost since their season opener and have won five of their last five six games, are 8-1-2 overall on the year and a perfect 4-0 in the conference. FSU has outscored it four league opponents this season by a combined 14-0.
Frostburg State posted its sixth shutout this season after holding Pitt-Greensburg (2-8-2, 1-3) to just two shots on evening. Meanwhile, the hosts attempted 24 shots and raced out to a 4-0 halftime edge.
Russell netted the game's first two goals inside the first 16 minutes to set the tone early as FSU outshot Greensburg 16-1 in the opening half. Russell scored an unassisted goal at 7:43 and again at 15:11 off an assist from junior
Lauren Lentine (Princeton, N.J./WWP North) as the hosts led 2-0.
Russell had a hand in the game's third score, this time feeding sophomore
Kaleigh Herring (Perry Hall, Md./North Harford) for her first goal of the season and a 3-0 lead.
The final goal of the first half came in the 32nd minute as freshman
Jessica Kraemer (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) received a pass from Herring and scored her first collegiate goal as the hosts led 4-0 at the break.
Frostburg State added two more goals in the second half to make the final tally 6-0. Freshman
Lina Quiroz (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) netted her first collegiate goal at 52:29 and Russell capped the evening with her third and final tally, this time off a pass from Quiroz.
Junior
Stephanie Gwinn (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) played 56:44 in net for FSU and made one save to earn the victory while freshman
Michelle Buckmaster (St. Leonard, Md./Calvert) played the other 33:16 to complete the game, making just one save as well.
Frostburg State is back in action on Thursday when it travels to NCAA Division II Shepherd at 4:00 pm.
