FROSTBURG, Md. – Wesley netted three second half goals and four different players scored as the Wolverines defeated Frostburg State 4-1 in field hockey action on senior day, Sunday afternoon.
The Bobcats, which had a six-game winning streak come to end in the loss, sit at 14-4 overall on the season. FSU faces Stevenson on Thursday with the chance to tie the school record for wins in a season (15). The Wolverines are now 10-6 overall and have won three straight.
FSU, which lost for just the second time at home this season, led in shots (13-9) and penalty corners (12-3) but Wesley made the most of its opportunities.
WC, which trailed in shots in the first half 7-3, got on the board in the ninth minute when Sam Marconi knocked home a rebound for a 1-0 lead.
The visitors scored back-to-back goals in the 53rd and 56th minutes to take a 3-0 edge just past midway in the second half. Brooke Tadlock scored off a penalty corner (Amber Tank assist) and Brooke Bennett scored the game's third goal off an assist from Ashley Kisner.
Junior
Sammy Stalter (La Plata, Md./La Plata) scored her team-leading 15th goal of the season at 58:14 off an assist from freshman
Sami Topolski (Reistertown, Md./Franklin) to narrow the gap to 3-1.
However, Wesley put the game away with its fourth goal of the contest in the 64th minute as Tadlock found Sheree Pleasanton for a 4-1 lead.
Senior
Rachel Babchuk (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) suffered the loss after allowing the first half goal. Maura Druhan made eight stops and allowed just one goal while picking up the victory in net for the Wolverines.
