FROSTBURG, Md. - Junior Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) led with 24 kills and sophomore Brittany McVearry (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) had 17 digs to help Frostburg State get back on the winning track with a 3-1 AMCC victory over Pitt-Greensburg, Tuesday evening.

FSU, which rebounded from a 3-1 loss to Penn State Behrend on Saturday, is now 24-5 overall and 5-1 in the conference while UPG slips to 9-9 and 4-1 in the league.

Frostburg State ran away with game one early on, opening up a 12-6 lead after a run of five-straight points. The hosts collected another large run, this time nine-consecutive points to extend the lead to 22-8 before a 25-11 victory in the first set.

Game two didn't quite go in the favor of FSU as Pitt-Greensburg battled back from a 13-7 deficit to even the game at 14 apiece. After UPG captured a 21-19 lead, Frostburg State evened the game at 22 but the visitors scored three of the final four points to steal a 25-23 win.

Pitt-Greensburg didn't back down in the third set as it opened a slim 10-9 lead, however, Frostburg State used an 8-0 run to take 17-10 edge. The teams traded three-point runs (20-14) but FSU scored the final five points for the 25-14 win.

Pitt-Greensburg hung tough in the fourth set, but Frostburg State battled back from a 10-9 hole with nine of the next 12 points for an 18-13 lead. After the teams swapped a handful of points FSU used a late 5-1 run for a 25-18 win.

Winterling now needs just 20 kills for second place all-time in school history (1,552). Sophomore Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) also turned in a solid effort with 19 kills and 13 digs and moved into ninth all-time in FSU history with 675 kills.

Freshman Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) had her fifth 40-plus assist effort of the season after handing out 44 and is now eighth on the FSU single-season record list with 949.
