Field Hockey Shuts Down St. Vincent 4-0

LATROBE, Pa. – Sophomore Brooke Tapman (Pocomoke, Md./Pocomoke) scored two goals and Frostburg State found the net three times in the first half as it ran away to a 4-0 victory over St. Vincent in field hockey, Wednesday.

The Bobcats (12-3) have won four-straight games and reached the 12-win plateau for the second time since 2002 and just the seventh time in the program's 38-year history.

The Bearcats (5-7) never really threatened offensively as they totaled just six shots, three in each half. Meanwhile, FSU scored four goals on 24 shots including three goals on 12 attempts in the opening half.

Tapman netted the game's first two goals to hand the visitors a 2-0 lead. She connected on her sixth goal of the year at 13:15 and found the net a little over four minutes later (17:55).

Junior Sammy Stalter (La Plata, Md./La Plata) scored for the third time in the last four games as she ended the first half's scoring with her team leading 13th goal of the season (25:12).

In the second half, freshman Amanda Kerstetter (Galena, Md./Bohemia Manor) scored her first collegiate goal in the 61st minute to push the Bobcat lead to 4-0.

FSU keeper Samantha Foland (Myersville, Md./Middletown) needed to make just three saves in the win as she collected her 12 victory of the season. Megan Vargo made five saves and allowed four goals in the loss.

Frostburg State returns to the field on October 22 when it travels to Goucher at 4:00 pm.
