Field Hockey Defeats Wooster, 3-1

Wooster, Ohio. – Freshman Sami Topolski (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) netted two goals and the Frostburg State field hocky team pushed its way to a three game-winning streak in win over Wooster, 3-1, Saturday afternoon.

The Fighting Scots (9-3) outshot Frostburg State (11-3) 20-9, the Bobcats scored two second half goals on just three shots. The first goal of the game came with 7:40 left on the first half clock after Topolski tipped in a pass from sophomore Breanne Russell (Clements, Md./Chopticon) off a penalty corner.

With 13:01 left in the second half, Topolski tallied her second goal of the game after scoring off another penalty corner, giving Frostburg State a 2-0 advantage over Wooster.

Amanda Artman netted the only goal for the Fighting Scots off an assist from Eileen Barrer with only 6:19 left in the game, narrowing the Bobcat lead to one point, 2-1.

Freshman Brandi Mixell (Fort Littleton, Pa./Forbes Road) scored her third goal of the season during a scramble in front of the Wooster goal with 4:09 left in play to end scoring at 3-1.

Sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Foland (Myersville, Md./Middletown) made a season-high of 13 saves in the win while Wooster goalie Madalyn Myers had four saves in the loss.

Frostburg State is back on the field when it travels to St. Vincent October 15 at 4:00 pm.
