Women's Basketball Loses to Mount Aloysius

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's basketball team fell to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Mount Aloysius, 71-47, on Saturday in Bobcat Arena. Lindsey Bush scored a season-high of 28 points for Mount Aloysius against the Bobcats.

Junior Jaime Morningstar (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) led FSU with 19 points, making five of six three-point shots. Morningstar also had nine rebounds. Freshman Elizabeth Carrington (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) followed with13 points and two steals. Brianna Baker posted a double double for the Mounties with 16 total points and 15 rebounds.

Mount Aloysius (5-4, 2-2) led FSU (3-6, 0-5) going into halftime with an eight-point lead, 29-21. In the first half with 12 minutes left to play, MTA had a 12-point lead over the Bobcats. At the 6:54 minute mark, Frostburg State battled back and was able to shrink the Mounties lead to just five points,18-13, with a three-pointer from Morningstar.

A layup by Baker would give Mount Aloysius an 11-point edge over the Bobcats, 24-13, with 5:17 left in play. FSU shortened the Mounties lead again to five points, 26-21, with a free throw made by Carrington with 48 seconds left in the half. A good three pointer from MTA's Brooke Bryner gave Mount Aloysius its eight-point lead going into the second half.

In the second half, the Mounties went on to score six consecutive points, 48-26, to increase its lead over the Bobcats at the 15:29 minute mark. FSU came back to within 13 points of MTA, 48-35, when junior Ashley Anthony (Silver Spring, Md./Woodrow Wilson) scored a layup with 9:23 left in the half. That was the closest the Bobcats would come to the Mounites as they continued their lead over the rest of the half.

The Bobcats are back in action Jan. 7 at No. 7 ranked Mary Washington at 6:00 pm.
