Russell Scores Two, Frostburg State Dominates Lake Erie 4-0

FROSTBURG, Md. - Freshman Lauren Russell (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) scored two goals and Frostburg State dominated Lake Erie in every facet of the game in a 4-0 shutout in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference women's soccer action, Saturday at Bobcat Stadium.

The Bobacats, winners of seven straight, scored a pair of goals in each half in the victory. FSU also outshot the Storm 28-2 and held a 10-1 edge in corner kicks. Both of the Lake Erie shots were attempted in the first half.

Russell pushed her scoring streak to five games after her first goal on the game put the Bobcats on the scoreboard in the 15th minute. The goal, her sixth goal of the season, found the back of the net off the foot of sophomore Lauren Lentine (Princeton, N.J./WWP North).

The Bobcats finally found the net again with just 39 seconds left in the first half when sophomore Katie Emminger (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) scored an unassisted goal.

Russell opened play in the second half with her second tally of the afternoon on an assist from sophomore Amanda Drake (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) just 1:21 in.

FSU scored the fourth and final goal of the victory in the 69th minute when freshman Shonna Ferree (Frostburg, Md./Beall) scored her first goal as a Bobcat.

Kara Daratony and Darlene Bott each took a shot for the Storm during the game.

Sophomore Stephanie Gwinn (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) and senior Amanda LaPorta (Westminster, Md./Wesminster) split time in net for the Bobcats. Gwinn played the first 68 minutes making one save while LaPorta played the final 21 without facing a shot. Veronica Skowron made 13 saves and allowed all four goals for the Storm.

Women's soccer is back in action on Wednesday, September 26 with a non-conference game against Catholic at Bobcat Stadium at 6:00 pm.
