FROSTBURG, Md. -The Bobcats opened Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play Saturday with a disappointing loss to Lake Erie College, falling 3-1.
In the first half, FSU (3-5) came out firing on offense blasting eight shots but Storm keeper Mike Loparo refused to let the Bobcats score making five saves. The lone score of the half came off the foot of Lake Erie (6-2-1) forward Scott Stuckey at the 16:43 mark.
In the second half Frostburg State again came out aggressive with junior
Gregg Laskow (Plainsboro, N.J./WWP-North) netting a goal just eight minutes in to tie the game. The Bobcat offensive continued throughout the half as they dominated possession but could not find space in the Storm defense. FSU outshot Lake Erie 17-10 in the game.
Lake Erie would score two more goals late in the game off of crucial errors by the Bobcat defense. The first came when FSU failed to clear the ball and committed a foul in their own box, leading to a penalty kick goal by Justin Rraya. The second would come from a free kick from 45 yards out that arched into the goal over keeper
Jay Herford (Crofton, Md./South River).
Herford tallied five saves in the game while Loparo kept the FSU offense at bay with eight saves.
"We possessed the ball well and created lots of opportunities for ourselves" said head coach Keith Byrnes "Today we just couldn't catch any breaks and our weaknesses really showed with the three mistakes we made that led to their goals".
The Bobcats look to get back on track Tuesday when they travel to St. Vincent at 4:00 pm.
