HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Frostburg State volleyball team defeated both Mary Baldwin and Messiah in the EMU Invitational on Saturday.
FSU won the first match against Mary Baldwin 3-1. The Bobcats rallied after losing the first game 28-30 to win the next three with game scores of 30-10, 30-15, and 30-21.
Freshman
Rachel Burke (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) led FSU with 15 digs, while freshman
Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) led with eight service aces. Thomas also had eight kills and two blocks. Freshman
Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) led the Bobcats with 13 kills followed 10 kills from sophomore
Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg).
Freshman
Bekah Litz (Edgewater, Md./South River) had seven assists, while junior
Jenny Wheaton (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) had five assists and sophomore
Joanna Murray (Bowie, Md./Bowie) had four.
In the second match, the Bobcats defeated Messiah 3-0. The game scores were 30-19, 30-15, and 30-28.
Wheaton led FSU with 30 assists and 13 digs, while Burke followed with 10 digs and two services aces. Winterling led the Bobcats with ten kills follwed by Stephens and Thomas each having seven kills.
Sophomore
Chelsea Wassell (Westernport, Md./Southern Garrett) had three blocks followed by Stephens with two.
The Bobcats travel to Hood September 5th at 7:00 pm.
