Men's Soccer Off to 2-0 Start With Shutout of Hood

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State University men's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 1-0 victory over Hood, Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium in the final game of the FSU Tournament.

The match began as a defensive stalemate with neither side able to break through for a goal. However, in the 29th minute, Bobcat freshman Michael Bloomer (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) broke the defensive struggle with his first career goal.

FSU had mulitiple opportunities to put the game out of reach taking 16 shots throughout the game, eight each half, but Hood goalkeeper Shawn Fernholz kept the Bobcat attack at bay with eight saves.

The Blazers countered with nine shots of their own but Frostburg State netminder Jay Herford (Crofton, Md./South River) made three saves, earning his fourth career shutout.

Frostburg State returns to action Wednesday September 5 at home against Bethany at 6:00 pm.
