FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State University men's soccer team got off to a hot start in the season opener downing Catholic 2-1, Friday night at Bobcat Stadium.
Freshman
Andres Vega (Potomac, Md./Wootton) gave the Bobcats the early lead scoring his first career goal just six minutes into the contest.
The entire match was physical as both teams were determined to start the season strong. The intense game saw 34 total shots including 19 by FSU.
Junior
Gregg Laskow (Plainsboro, N.J./WWP-North) added the second goal for Frostburg State a little before halftime with the assist from junior
Adam Gracia (Rockville, Md/Thomas Wootton). Gracia had a chance in the second to add to the FSU lead with a shot from 30 yards out that hit the crossbar.
Nick Sylvester put Catholic on the board with three minutes remaining but the Bobcat defense proved to be to much. Frostburg State goalkeeper
Jay Herford (Crofton, Md./South River) finished the night with seven saves while Cardinal keeper Daly Quinn recorded ten saves of his own in the loss.
Frostburg returns to action at 2:00 pm Saturday when they match up against Hood College.
