Softball Splits With AMCC Foe Pitt-Bradford

BRADFORD, Pa. – Freshman pitcher Katelyn Coffey (Middletown, Md./Middletown) earned her fourth-straight win to help lead Frostburg State to a split with Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Pitt-Bradford, Friday evening.

FSU (9-13, 6-1) dropped game one 5-3 but won game two 14-4 behind an eight-run second inning.

In the opener, UPB rallied from a 3-1 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn the win.

The Bobcats trailed 1-0 until it evened the score at 1-1 with a single run in the fourth and took a 3-1 edge with a pair of runs in the fifth. Senior Lori Potts (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) led off the fourth with a single and advanced to third after a sac bunt and single. She later scored when sophomore Kaitlyn Wagner (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) singled. In the fifth, freshmen Lindsay Seal (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore (Frederick CC)) and Amber Macintosh (Point of Rocks, Md./Brunswick) crossed home plate on an error by the Bradford third baseman.

However, the hosts earned the win with four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Kramer had a two-run single, Kristy Zavinski had an RBI single and UPB scored on an error to cap the scoring.

Potts took the loss on the mound for the Bobcats in game one allowing five runs, one earned, on 10 hits wile fanning three. Zavinski earned the win tossing all 7.0 innings and allowing three runs on 10 hits.

Senior Amanda Griswold (Rockville, Md./Magruder), Baldwin, Seal and Macintosh all had two hits for FSU at the plate.

In the nightcap, Coffey earned her fourth-consecutive win striking out eight and allowing four runs on eight hits.

FSU broke the game wide open with eight runs in the second. Coffey, Wagner, Seal, Baldwin, Griswold and junior Meghan Dabkowski (Eastnorthport, N.Y./Commack) all recorded RBIs during the outburst.

The Bobcats later added one run in the fifth and Pitt-Bradford scored two in the bottom half of the inning as the visitors led 9-2.

Frostburg State tacked on five runs in the sixth and Bradford could only muster two in the bottom of the inning as the game ended. Freshman Samantha Quirin (Lovettsville, Va./Loudoun Valley) powered the inning with a two-run double.

Jillian Kreitzer took the loss in 6.0 innings for the hosts allowing 14 runs on 13 hits.

FSU returns to action tomorrow when it takes on Medaille at 2:30 pm in Buffalo, N.Y.
