LYNCHBURG, Va. – Senior Ashley Mattison (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) tallied five goals for Frostburg State but it wasn’t enough as the women’s lacrosse team lost to Lynchburg, 19-17, Sunday afternoon ending the Bobcats four-game winning streak.

FSU (4-5) trailed by just one goal, 16-15 with 6:28 left in the game, but LC (7-7) scored three-straight goals over the next four minutes to blow the game open at 19-15 with just 2:35 to play.

Senior Brittany Brumby (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) and junior Lindsey Lamont (Sykesville, Md./Century) each netted three goals for the Frostburg State in the loss.

Nicole Locher led all scorers with six goals and three assists for Lynchburg.

LC broke a 1-1 tie with four-straight goals over a 1:20 stretch starting at 22:42. Mattison scored her first goal of the game at 19:01 to end the run and bring the score to 5-2. She later scored back-to-back goals at 15:27 and 14:49 to narrow the Bobcat deficit to 7-5.

After a three-goal streak for the Hornets, FSU countered by scoring the final four goals of the half, to bring the score to within one, 10-9, as the game headed into intermission.

Brumby scored her first goal of the contest 48 seconds into the second half as FSU tied the game at 10-10.

Lynchburg’s goals came in sets of three in the second half as its first run of three answered Brumby’s goal and gave the hosts a 13-10 edge. Frostburg State posted two more goals but LC again tallied three in a row for a 16-12 lead with 18:30 to play.

Frostburg State put together its own run of three and narrowed the gap to 16-15 but LC’s final run sealed the win.

Senior Rachel Lewis (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) played the entire game between the pipes for Frostburg State, suffering the loss but making 10 saves. Ji-Young Eun earned the win for the Hornets stopping 16 shots.

Frostburg State held a slim lead in shots (46-43) but the hosts led in ground balls (26-24).

FSU returns to the field Wednesday, April 18 when it travels to Notre Dame for a match at 4:30 pm.
