Long Guides Lacrosse Past Marymount, 15-8

FROSTBURG, Md. — Senior Ann Long (New Market, Md./Linganore) netted four goals to help lead Frostburg State to a 15-8 win over Marymount at rain soaked Bobcat Stadium, Sunday.

FSU has now won back-to-back games to improve its record 2-4 while Marymount slips to 1-7.

Freshman Elisabeth Hildebrand (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) also helped the Bobcats to the win scoring three goals and an assist while junior Carly Rihard (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) had a pair of goals and an assist and senior Ashley Mattison (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) added two scores.

FSU scored the game’s first goal just 18 seconds into action but Marymount answered with a pair of goals for a 2-1 lead. The Bobcats then went on a 7-0 run over the next 14 minutes for an 8-2 lead. Long scored three goals and Rihard added two during the run. Marymount scored the final goal of the half as the hosts led 8-3 at the break.

In the second, the Saints outscored the Bobcats 5-3 over the first 23 minutes to narrow the score to 11-8, however FSU scored the game’s final four goals to earn the win.

Senior Rachel Lewis (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) played the entire game between the pipes for Frostburg State making 11 saves.

FSU outshot MMU 32-23 and the Bobcats picked up 21 ground balls.

FSU returns to action April 4 at 5:00 pm when it hosts Ann Arundel.
