BRADFORD, Pa. — Junior Antione McCall (Essex, Md./Eastern Tech) scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and the Frostburg State men’s basketball team rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit to defeat Pitt-Bradford 63-56, Saturday afternoon.

FSU (10-11, 9-5 AMCC) took over sole possession of third place in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference with the win over UPB (11-10, 8-6 AMCC).

McCall was just 4-of-8 from the field but made 10-of-12 free throws while scoring 14 of his 18 points in the second half. Senior Dale DeBerry (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) scored 16 points and junior Jermaine Kapombe (Washington, D.C./Friendly) added nine.

Mark Austin led the Panthers with 19 points followed by Shawn Spindler with 11.

Both teams made 19 baskets for the game, but FSU took just 45 attempts while UPB shot the ball 59 times. The Bobcats also outshot the Panthers from the free throw line, 24-of-34 (70.6%) to 11-of-20 (55.0%).

The hosts jumped out to a quick 11-4 lead just under four minutes into the game. FSU battled back to take its own lead, 16-14, on a jumper by McCall with 9:00 left in the opening half.

The Panthers answered with a three pointer on the ensuing trip down the floor and would lead the remainder of the half, including a 27-23 edge at halftime.

After the teams traded a pair of baskets in the first two minutes of the second half, Pitt-Bradford used a 14-5 run to open a 12-point advantage, 46-34, with 12:08 to play. The Bobcats answered with a run of their own, outscoring UPB 18-6 over the next nine minutes to tie the game at 52-52.

Austin made a basket to regain the lead for the Panthers, 54-52 at 2:19, but McCall made a pair of free throws at 2:08 to tie the game for the final time at 54-54.

UPB turned the ball over on its next possession and DeBerry made a layup and a free throw with 1:52 to play to give FSU the lead for good. Pitt-Bradford made just one basketball in the final two minutes and Frostburg State shot a perfect 6-of-6 from the foul line in the final 1:30 to earn the win.

The Bobcats return to action on February 7 when they travel to Penn State Altoona at 8:00 pm.
