Pitt-Greensburg Rallies Past Men's Basketball

GREENSBURG, Pa. - Frostburg State had four starters score in double figures but it wasn't enough as the Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball squad rallied for an 83-76 win in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opener for both programs.

FSU (1-3, 0-1) led for much of the opening half, including a 41-37 halftime advantage, but UPG (1-4, 1-0) rallied early in the second period and hung on for the victory.

Freshman Brian Anderson (Perry Hall, Md./Eastern Tech) led all scorers with 17 points in just his second collegiate start. Senior Brian Green (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) added 15, senior Jade Belt (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) chipped in 12 and junior Juan Wansley (Odenton, Md./Arundel) had 11.

Pitt-Greensburg had six players in double figures including all five starters. Daniel Waajid and Dino Tessari each had 15 points while Waajid grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds.

UPG shot 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from the floor and 60.0 percent (12-of-20) from the free throw line in the second half to erase a four-point halftime deficit.

UPG made three-straight baskets to open the second half, two three pointers, to take a four-point edge, 45-41, over the first four minutes. UPG never looked back allowing FSU to get within two points just twice over the final frame.

Waajid scored the game's first basket and the two squads battled through the opening couple of minutes until FSU opened a 16-10 lead at 14:59. Sophomore Paul Shockley (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) made a free throw at 6:20 to give Frostburg State its largest lead of the game, 31-20. Pitt-Greensburg outscored FSU 17-10 over the remainder of the half to trail by just four at the break.

Frostburg State returns to action at Penn State Behrend on Saturday for a 4:00 pm tipoff.
