FROSTBURG, Md. - Three different players registered two goals for the Frostburg State men's soccer team as it beat AMCC opponent Pitt-Bradford, 9-0, on senior day Sunday at Bobcat Stadium.
Fresh off its most lopsided victory in school history last Wednesday, FSU (8-7-1, 4-3-1) has now posted back-to-back wins and the Bobcats have outscored their last two opponents by an impressive 25-0. Frostburg State dominated Mt. Aloysius 16-0 this past week, to capture the record.
The win was the fifth shutout for the Bobcats this year and the fourth against an AMCC opponent. The Panthers (1-14, 1-7) have lost five-straight contests and suffered their ninth shutout of the season.
Senior Kenny Dotter (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point), junior Gregg Laskow (Plainsboro, N.J./WWP-North) and freshman Danny Hutchins (Baltimore, Md./Parkville) each scored a pair a goals to guide the Bobcats in the win.
Dotter struck first with the game winning goal at 4:18 off a cross from Laskow just outside the six-yard box. Fellow senior Alex Wilkinson (La Vale, Md./Bishop Walsh) scored in a similar fashion six minutes later when a ball was crossed just outside the six-yard box that he put home for a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Patrick Ferraris (Springfield, Va./Paul VI Catholic) was credited with the assist.
The third FSU goal was a reverse of the first as Dotter fed Laskow for the score. Laskow leads the Bobcats with 15 goals.
Junior Adam Gracia (Rockville, Md./Thomas Wootton) slammed home a shot at 24:54 that bounced off the cross bar and found the back of the net and classmate Joe Norton (Baltimore, Md./Mount St. Joseph) scored on a penalty kick at 28:06 as FSU led 5-0. Hutchins scored his first goal of the afternoon at 36:00 to end the first half action.
The Bobcats managed six first-half goals on 21 shots while holding the visitors to just one.
In the second, Laskow, Dotter and Hutchins each tallied their second goals to help FSU to the win. Laskow scored in the 48th minute, Dotter in the 64th and freshman Michael Bloomer (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) assisted Hutchins (83:12) to end the scoring for the game.
The second half saw less action than the first as Frostburg State attempted 14 shots and Pitt-Bradford managed four.
Junior Jay Herford (Crofton, Md./South River) and freshman Dante Dozier (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) split time in net for the Bobcats. Herford played the entire first half while Dozier played the second, making three saves.
The Bobcats return to action Tuesday, October 23 when they travel to La Roche 4:00 pm.
