STEVENSON, Md. - The Frostburg State field hockey team continued its winning streak defeating Villa Julie, 5-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats (9-5), winners of three straight, got on the board early when sophomore
Kelly Filipowicz (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) scored an unassisted goal at 1:44 mark. Freshman
Breanne Russell (Clements, Md./Chopticon) scored her third goal of the season with an unassisted goal in the 13th mintue of the game.
Freshman
Brooke Tapman (Salisbury, Md./Pocomoke) later added two more goals for the Bobcats.
At 24:44, Tapman scored the first of her two goals on an assist from junior
Michelle Frost (Jessup, Md./Hammond), giving Frostburg State a 3-0 edge over Villa Julie. Two mintues into the second half, Tapman scored on a penalty stroke and now is the leading scorer for FSU with 14 goals this season.
Jennifer Sauers scored the only goal for VJC (4-12) off an assist from Katelyn Manocheh early in the second. The last goal of the game came at the 56 minute mark from FSU junior
Aly Erickson (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) with an assist from Filipowicz.
The Bobcats outshot the Mustangs eight to four in the game.
Senior
Amanda Runion (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) earned the win in net for the Bobcats with a total of two saves while Mustang goalkeeper Kara Zimmerman had three.
Frostburg State is back on the field on October 25th at 4:30 pm at Bobcat Stadium.
