FROSTUBURG, MD. — Mary Washington drained 18 three-pointers on it’s way to the centuary mark by defeating Frostburg State 100-66, Thursday evening at Bobcat Arena.

With their third loss in a row, FSU falls to 4-7, while Mary Washington improves to 9-2.

Six players for the Eagles scored in double figures with Justin Baker leading the team with 20 points, while the Bobcats had three players score in double digits.

Juniors Antione McCall (Essex, Md./Eastern Tech) and Jermaine Kapombe (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) each scored 15 points for FSU, while senior Dale DeBerry (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) chipped in 12 points.

McCall opened the game with a jumper, putting the Bobcats up 2-0, which would be the only time FSU had the lead. The Eagles would resond on the next trip down the court, with one of their three-pointers. Mary Washington would cap the half the same way they began, with Ben Stokes draining a basket from behind the arc as the clock expired.

The Eagles took a 45-29 lead going into the intermission, behind 60.7% (17-of-28) shooting from the field and 9-of-19 (47.4%) from three-point land. The Bobcats shot 46.4% (13-of-28) from the field and 37.5% (3-of-8) from behind the arc in the first half.

FSU tired relentlessly to make a comeback in the second half, however, turnovers and made three-pointers by Mary Washington would thwart any such chances.

UMW finished the game shooting 55.7% (39-of-58) from the floor, while Frostburg State went 26-of-57 (45.6%) from the field. From behind the arc, FSU shot 37.5 % on 6-of-16 shooting while Mary Washington went 45% on 18-of-40 shots.

FSU returns to the court on Saturday, January 6 when it hosts Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford at 4:00 pm.
