GREENSBURG, Pa. — Junior Antione McCall (Essex, Md./Eastern Tech) scored a a career-high 29 points and added 12 rebounds to pace the Frostburg State men’s basketball team to a 75-73 victory over Pitt-Greensburg, Wednesday evening at the Chambers hall Gym.

FSU (8-10, 7-4 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference) held a 12-point edge with 5:27 to play in the game, but had to survive a huge late-game rally from UPG (2-16, 2-9 AMCC) to earn the win.

McCall scored 14 of his 29 points from the free throw line including nine made foul shots in the second half. Sophomore Makiha Cooper (Baltimore, Md./Forest Park) was second on the team with 11 points while senior Jade Belt (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) scored 10 and pulled down 10 boards.

Pitt-Greensburg was led by 17 points from Matt Rowland while Tim Gustin led the hosts with 11 rebounds.

The first half saw a close battle by both teams as neither could take more than a five-point lead. The opening period also had five lead changes and seven ties.

McCall made a pair of free throws just under four minutes into the contest to give Frostburg State an early 6-1 lead. McCall later gave FSU a four-point lead, 20-16, at 9:55.

Pitt-Greensburg rebounded to take its own five-point lead on three separate occasions, the last coming with 22 seconds left in the half, 40-35. Senior Dale DeBerry (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) made a basket in the waning seconds of the half as FSU trailed at the break 40-37.

Pitt-Greensburg again led by five points, 47-42, four minutes into the second before FSU used a 18-3 spurt to open a 14-point lead, 64-50 at 11:43.

UPG answered by scoring eight-straight points to cut the deficit to 64-58 at 9:37, but FSU pushed it back to 12, 70-58 with 5:27 to play.

Pitt-Greensburg would not go away however, hitting two three pointers and making a perfect six-of-six free throws down the stretch to creep within one point with 1:12 left. UPG’s Gustin tried a three pointer with 11 seconds remaining and McCall made a free throw with eight seconds left to end the scoring.

The Bobcats return to action on January 27 when they host Medaille at 3:00 pm.
