Mens Basketball Falls to Penn State Behrend 67-43

ERIE, Pa. — The Frostburg State men’s basketball team could not overcome a poor shooting performance as it fell to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference rival Penn State Behrend , 67-43, Saturday afternoon.

FSU (7-10, 6-4) made just 15 baskets and shot a season low 24.2 percent from the floor while PSB (11-5, 9-1) was 23-of-45 (51.1%) from the field.

The Bobcats took an early 2-0 lead on the first of just six first-half field goals. The Lions answered by scoring 14-straight points for a 14-2 edge just five minutes into action.

After FSU cut the PSB lead to seven, 20-13 at 7:10, the hosts outscored the Bobcats 13-4 over the rest of the half for a 33-17 advantage at the break.

In the second half, Penn State Behrend pushed its lead to 21 points after a pair of made free throws at 10:44. The Lions took their largest lead of the contest, 67-41 with just 1:49 to play before Frostburg State ended the scoring with two foul shots with just 52 seconds left.

Senior Dale DeBerry (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) led the team with eight points while juniors Brian Green (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) and Jermaine Kapombe (Washington, D.C./Friendly) each scored five.

Kevin Buczynski led Penn State Behrend with 17 points followed David Gahan with eight.

FSU outrebounded PSB 38-36 including a 23-9 edge on the offensive glass.

The Bobcats return to action on January 24 when they travel to Pitt-Greensburg at 8:00 pm.
