Lake Erie Defeats Men's Basketball for 80-70 Victory

FROSTBURG, Md. — Four players scored in double figures as Lake Erie rallies for a 80-70 win over the Frostburg State men’s basketball team, Monday afternoon at Bobcat Arena.

FSU (6-9, 5-3) led by 10 points with a little over 11 minutes left in the contest, but LEC (13-1, 8-0) used a 36-16 scoring jolt over the remaining minutes to earn the win. The Storm also shot lights out during the comeback, pouring in 13 out of their final 15 shots from the field.

FSU junior Antione McCall (Essex, Md./Eastern Tech) led all scorers with 25 points including a game-high 12 rebounds. Senior Dale DeBerry (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) chipped in with 17 points.

Howard Washington led Lake Erie with 15 points while Derrick Thornton added 14. Robert Williams (12 pts.) and Jory Wilder (11 pts.) were also in double figures the visitors.

While both teams put up 61 shots each, FSU made 28 while LEC made 27. The Bobcats also outrebounded the Storm 40-32 but Lake Erie forced Frostburg State into committing 22 turnovers including 13 in the final period.

The squads battled through the early part of the opening half until FSU emerged with a seven-point advantage at 8:34.

Despite Lake Erie narrowing the gap to within a basket on several occasions, FSU closed out the half with a layup and a pair of free throws for a 34-29 halftime lead.

In the second stanza, the Bobcats would slowly push their lead to a game-high 11 points, 52-41, with 11:28 showing on the clock. After a LEC three-pointer and a FSU layup, the hosts led by 10, 54-44 with 11:03 left, setting up the comeback.

Washington and Williams each scored seven points to help fuel the rally.

FSU returns to action on Monday when it welcomes Lake Erie to Bobcat Arena for a 3:00 pm showdown.
