Kenny Dotter (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) scored the only goal for the Bobcats, as Frostburg State was defeated by Hood College 2-1, Tuesday evening at Thomas Athletic Field.
With the loss, FSU falls to 3-6 overall while Hood improves to 4-5.
The Blazers jumped on the Bobcats early, scoring just 1:56 into the game. Junior Tom Noonan was credited with the goal, after senior Ben Snyder passed him the ball.
Junior Marcelino Rabara scored what ended up being the game-winning goal 33 minutes into the match. Sophomore David Wilson headed the ball into the box and found Rabara, putting Hood up 2-0.
In the 49th minute, the Bobcats were able to pull within a goal, when Dotter attacked the sideline and ripped a left footed shot at the top of the goalbox.
FSU hurt it’s chances at making a comeback, when it was handed a red card in the 78:03 minute mark. With the card, the Bobcats had to play a man down for the remainder of the match.
Frostburg State narrowly outshot Hood College 15-12. Sophomore keeper Jay Herford (Crofton, Md./South River) recorded four saves, while Blazer goalie Shawn Fernholtz was credited with five.
“We came out flat and paid for it,” said head coach Keith Byrnes. “We lacked intensity today and didn’t convert on our scoring opportunities.
Frostburg State looks to rebound as they play host to last season’s Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference champion Medaille College on Saturday, September 30, at 3:00 pm.
