Volleyball Loses to Seton Hill, 3-0

FROSTBURG, Md. - Seton Hill defeated Frostburg State in volleyball action, 3-0, Wednesday evening at Bobcat Arena.

Seton Hill (4-7) earned the win with game scores of 30-18, 30-21 and 34-32.

The Griffins opened the first game with a 5-3 lead and extended that lead to 9-5. After a timeout, FSU (5-10) narrowed the gap to 10-8, but SHU rallied off six-straight points to push its advantge to 16-8.

The Griffins would take their largest lead of the game, 28-15, before closing out out the game with a 30-18 win.

In game two, Frostburg State opened an early lead of 5-2 and later held a 7-3 lead before Seton Hill rebounded with seven-straight points to take a 10-7 edge.

The visitors continued the pressure building a 19-12 cushion before the Bobcats battled back for a 20-17 score. SHU would again pull away holding leads of 23-17 and 28-20 before going on for the win, 30-21.

The Griffins came out with the momentum in game three taking an early 3-1 lead. The teams would swap points before Seton Hill built a 7-3 advantage.

After FSU scored a point to cut the deficit to 7-4, but SHU would score three-straight points for a 10-4 lead. Freshman Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) helped the Bobcats battle back, posting three kills as FSU narrowed the gap to 13-12.

The game would remain close from then on as neither team would hold more than a three-point edge. Frostburg State would later take its first lead of the game at 20-19.

SHU countered to move ahead 26-23 but the Bobcats tallied four-straight points for a 28-26 advantage. The game would later be tied at 29-29 and 32-32 before the Griffins would go on for a 34-32 victory.

Winterling led the charge with 11 kills, 10 digs and two blocks followed by sophomore Caryn Wright (Pikesville, Md./Western Tech) with six kills and four blocks.

Senior Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) had 22 assists and sophomore Jennifer Wheaton (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) posted 16 digs.

FSU is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Medaille to open Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action at 11:00 am.
