Kenny Dotter (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) scored two goals for Frostburg State, to give the Bobcats a hard-fought 2-0 win over Albright College, Saturday night at Bobcat Stadium.
Frostburg State improves to 2-4, while Albright College falls to 2-2-1.
From the initial kickoff, the game was physical and both teams were coming off losses and were determined to get a win. The intense game consisted of 28 total fouls and four different players were given yellow cards.
The Bobcats got on the board first in the 11th minute of the game when senior Jeff Bisker (Fallston, Md./Fallston) attacked the Lions endline then slotted the ball to an oncoming Dotter. Dotter slammed the ball into the far corner of the goal from 12 yards out, beating Lions keeper Joe Hartman.
Albright battled back and had their best chance of the game with 18 minutes left in the first half. The Bobcats comitted a foul eighteen yards away from their goal. Senior Steve Moran would take the free-kick chance for Albright, and barely missed just inches over the cross bar.
In the second half, FSU had several chances from sophomore Adam Gracia (Rockville, Md./Thomas Wootton) to increase their lead. Gracia’s most exciting chance came at the 30:12 mark in the second half. Dotter attacked the right flank of the Lions defense and played the ball in the air across the goalbox. Gracia timed his run and layed out in the air for a diving header shot; however, after the ball beat Hartman, his shot was denied by the crossbar.
The Bobcats outshot the Lions 28-13. Hartman recorded 14 saves, while senior goalkeeper Derek Richardson (New Windsor, Md./Linganore) was credited with six.
Frostburg State returns to action on Wednesday when they play host to Franklin & Marshall. The game is set for a 7:00 pm kickoff.
