FROSTBURG, MD — Frostburg State was defeated by visiting St. Mary’s (Md.) 13-11 in women’s lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Field in the team’s last game of the season.
The Seahawks (13-4) opened the game with two goals to take the early lead. The Bobcats (6-11) answered with back-to-back goals from junior Brittany Brumby (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) and sophomore Carly Rihard (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) to tie the game at two apiece.
SMC found the net twice to regain the lead, 4-2. Goals from sophomore Lindsay Lamont (Sykesville, Md./Century) and Brumby tied the game again (4-4) with 10:22 on the game clock.
Four more scores from St. Mary’s would give it a 9-4 lead at intermission.
In the second half of action, FSU senior Stefanie Ritz (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) found the net twice in the opening four minutes to bring the score within 10-6.
Three Bobcat goals, one each from Brumby, Rihard and Lamont, narrowed the game to 10-9. After the team’s exchanged goals, St. Mary’s scored two goals, 33 seconds apart to seal the win. Lamont capped the scoring at 2:33.
Brumby led FSU with four goals, while Lamont added three scores. Sophomore Maria Schrum (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) added four assists.
Freshman Bobcat keeper Erin Morrell (Easton, Md./Easton) picked up 14 saves in the loss, earning her 15th double-digit performance of the season.
