Lacrosse Loses to Virginia Wesleyan

NORFOLK, VA - Virginia Wesleyan beat Frostburg State 10-4 Sunday afternoon in women’s lacrosse action.

Senior Stefanie Ritz (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) opened the scoring with a goal just 38 seconds into action with an assist by sophomore Carly Rihard (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll). Back-to-back goals from the Marlins gave them the 2-1 advantage.

Junior Ashley Mattison (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) tied the game at 2-2 with a shot at the 17:51 mark. VWC ended the half with another goal and a 3-2 lead.

In the second half, Virginia Wesleyan netted two consecutive goals to extend its lead to 5-2. Sophomore Lindsay Lamont (Sykesville, Md./Century) and Ritz each found the net within twenty seconds of each other to cut the Bobcat deficit to 5-4. The Marlins ensured the win by scoring five more goals.

Bobcat freshman goalie Erin Morrell (Easton, Md./Easton) had 20 saves in the loss.

The Bobcats will return to action Wednesday as they travel to Washington & Lee for a game beginning at 4:00 pm.
