CRESSON, Pa. — Junior Tracie George (Windber, Pa./Windber) netted 20 points to lead the Frostburg State women’s basketball team to its fifth-straight win with an 89-66 victory over Mt. Aloyius Tuesday evening.

The Bobcats improved to 16-5 overall and 12-3 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference while the Mounties fell to 4-16 overall and 3-11 in the conference.

The teams battled back and forth to an 8-8 tie four minutes into action, until FSU took control by opening an 11-point lead, 26-11, midway through the first half. Senior Stephanie Watts (Baltimore, Md./North County) led the outburst with seven points while junior Krystin Hargrove (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) added six.

Five minutes later, Watts made a pair of free throws to give Frostburg State a 38-17 advantage. The Mounties’ Shana Sawn made a three pointer with two seconds left to trim the score to 48-30 at halftime.

MTA cut the Bobcat lead to 48-34 two minutes into the second half. That was as close as Mt. Aloysius would get as the Bobcats pushed their lead back to 20 points, 58-38, three minutes later on a jumper by George.

At 5:50, redshirt-sophomore Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) made a jumper to give FSU its largest lead of the game at 81-53. George scored six of her 20 points down the stretch to help FSU to the win.

Hargrove scored 17 points and Hernandez added 14. Watts recorded her first double-double of the season with 14 scores and 11 boards.

The Mounties were led by Ashley O’Shell with 23 points.

The Bobcats return to action Friday, February 10 when they travel to Hilbert at 6:00 pm.
