Men's Basketball Beats Mt. Aloysius, 107-92

CRESSON, Pa. — Senior Dan Ryley (Frederick, Md./St. John's Prospect Hall) scored a season-high 26 points and pulled down 17 rebounds to lead Frostburg State to a 107-92 win over Mt. Aloysius Tuesday evening in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference men’s basketball action.

The Bobcats improved to 10-12 overall and 7-8 in the AMCC while the Mounties fell to 10-10 overall and 6-8 in the league action.

For the game, FSU was 34-for-62 (54.8%) from the floor including 8-for-15 (53.3%) from three-point range while MTA was 35-for-84 (41.7%) in field goals and just 8-for-31 (25.8%) from beyond the arc.

Frostburg State jumped out to an early 6-0 lead just 1:21 into action on a Ryley layup. After Mt. Aloysius narrowed the gap to 9-7 two minutes later, the Bobcats used a 12-2 run, including five points from senior Marcus McIntyre (Washington, D.C./Wilson), to open a 21-9 advantage at 14:08.

Ryley made two free throws to give FSU its largest lead of the half, 30-14, with 11:47 to play. However, MTA would answer by cutting the deficit to nine points, 42-33, at the 3:08 mark. The Bobcats pushed the lead back to double digits, 50-40, as the teams entered the lockerrooms.

The Mounites came out on fire in the second half hitting seven of their first nine shots, including three foul shots, as they tied the ballgame at 59 with 15:17 to play. The game didn’t remain close for very long, as the Bobcats went on a 19-7 run to open a 79-66 lead at 8:27.

MTA made a late charge, cutting the score to 93-84 with only 1:51 left in regulation but FSU made 12 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Sophomore Brian Owen (Gainesville, Va./Brentsville) scored 24 points, while senior Brandon Howell (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) netted 13, followed by sophomore Keith Hazel (Weirton, W.Va./Weir) with 12 and McIntyre with 11.

Roman Mims scored 26 points and Sam Hanik added 19 to lead the Mounties.

Frostburg State returns to action Friday, February 10 when it travels to Medaille at 8:00 pm.
