FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — The Frostburg State baseball team lost to No. 21 ranked Mary Washington, 14-1, Sunday afternoon in a single nine-inning game at Dickinson Stadium.
The Bobcats fell to 2-3 overall while the Eagles improved to 4-1.
FSU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when junior Rob Comerford (Herndon, Va./Oakton (Garrett College)) singled home sophomore Art Barone (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y./Spring Valley).
UMW answered in the home half of the second, tying the game at one run apiece, when Chase Townsend scored on a Chris Anderson sacrifice fly. The Eagles added to their lead in the fifth when Lee Rubin hit a solo homerun.
Mary Washington extended it lead in the sixth inning scoring two runs on RBIs from Jeff James and Mike O'Donnell. In the seventh, the hosts blew the game wide open scoring nine runs on five hits.
Kevin Foeman earned the win for the Eagles. He struckout eight and gave up one run on four hits in seven innings of work. Sophomore Jordan Crystal (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst (Monmouth)) took the loss evening his record to 1-1 on the season. He allowed four runs on six hits while fanning four.
FSU returns to action next Saturday when it hosts Centenary for a doubleheader at noon.
