FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Five players scored in double figures to lead Mary Washington to a 92-56 victory over visiting Frostburg State in non-conference women’s basketball action Monday evening at Goolrick Gymnasium.
WIth the win, the Eagles improved to 23-0 and own the distinction of being the only undefeated team in women’s NCAA Division III basketball.
UMW jumped to an early 14-4 lead under three minutes into play. The Eagles would lead by as much as 31, 46-15, at the 4:56 mark. The Bobcats (17-7) closed the gap slightly, but were down 50-22 at intermission.
The second half was much like the first, with Mary Washington dominating the Bobcats. The Eagles pulled ahead to take their biggest lead, 86-41, with 5:42 left to play.
Senior Stephanie Watts (Baltimore, Md./North County) led the team with 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Junior Krystin Hargrove (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) netted 13 points and added a team-high five assists, while classmate Tracie George (Windber, Pa./Windber) added 10 scores.
Liz Hickey scored 11 points and grabbed 14 boards, while Jenn Olinger kicked in 21 points. Debbie Bruen and Leigh Kampman netted 12 scores apiece, while Ashton Mitchell added 10 points.
The Bobcats close out their regular season Saturday, February 18 when they host Pitt-Greensburg at 2:00 pm.
